Our units are taught through living book format. They are applicable to all age levels, pre-reader to adult. If you would like to see how we adjust each level for difficulty (while allowing the whole family to come together), please visit this page HERE.
“Through the Eyes of: ER LIFE” is intended to take your family into the world of a real hospital through the eyes of a real ER provider. Actual hands-on experiences, experiential activities, insider knowledge… with real family growth. This unit contains information on life and death injuries and may not be suitable for sensitive children.
Students will be learning about pumping a human heart during an emergency, visualizing parts of the brain and what injuries can happen to it (and how ER providers address them), diseases, medical mysteries, labs, what blood tells us, how to work through differential diagnosis… and there will even be personality tests and activities where they will have their own medical rounds! They get to learn about sucking chest wounds and how to save lives, and they even get to learn the small emergencies such as how to remove a fish hook from someone’s cheek.
In this unit, later lessons build upon the groundwork in the beginning lessons, so we take you through it by holding your hand. By the end of the unit, the student will be able to understand the ER profession, its lingo, what the profession entails (highs and lows), and real-world application with experiential activities (based on real ER experiences). Older students get to practice diagnoses and more! All the while the family is bonding and having fun together! This type of job shadowing from a distance is an INCREDIBLE starting point for all in the family to share.

DIFFERENCES FROM THE NORM:
This unit is one of our first units, so there is a different font style, different graphics, and the layout/lesson flow that doesn’t match our norm. While it might look and flow quite a bit differently than our regular units, this is still many of our customer’s favorites!
This unit also does not yet include Core Connections.
