THREE UNIT CATEGORIES:
Campfire used to be focused only on extracurricular unit studies. We have since realized the desire from our customers to turn this into their core or all-in-one, as well. As such, we kept the original template (for those who want to use it as an elective only) and ADDED Core Connections Companions (for free). This covers all school subjects, except math, for elementary to university-aspiring high school students! Here are the topics of focus…
Through the Eyes of:
- Contributions for each unit from experts and professionals in the field
- Together with our contributors, we specifically created each experiential unit study for your family
“Through the Eyes of” units are our job shadowing unit studies (that also cover all core school subjects, if you use our Core Connections Companion!). We join together with the experience and knowledge of professionals across the world (which they provide for us, as we write this curriculum). We put everything into a unit study, with a simple teaching approach and experiential-based teaching style, so your entire family can learn as if right alongside the professional. Our hope is that this unique combination will create a remotely-accessible type of “job shadowing” that has never been possible before. Little ones will find new passions and learn about things in a much more fascinating way (after all, would you rather learn anatomy while memorizing an anatomy book or while “job shadowing” an ER provider?). Older students might actually get a glimpse into their dream job or passion!
With the Skills of:
- Contribution for each unit from skilled craftsmen, professional athletes, or experts
- Ever wonder how to make the perfect camping trip, raise chickens, or maintain your own vehicle…
This is the second of our three categories. In our “With the Skills of” units, we seek out the best information possible from the most skilled craftsmen and experts there are, in an attempt to share with your entire family. Ever wonder how to make a successful square foot garden or have the not-so-perfect but memory-lasting camping trip? Ever wanted to allow such subjects to also cover your core school subjects (if desired, using the Core Connections Companion)?
Let us be clear: we don’t just mean reading about these things. Anybody can buy a book. We are talking about EXPERIENCING these things. Experiential extracurricular unit studies involving hands-on learning, with kinesthetic activities for all.
Imagine a virtual “trip to France,” for the whole family to be trained day-by-day with an incredible cheese maker… or having your hand held and taught every day by a Mount Everest climber, as your family learns how to navigate terrain and go on their own mountain climbing adventure together. These are the units we allow customers to vote on, and the kind of units we create.
With our units, we desire to help… perhaps help with learning a skill your family never thought they could tackle before; or, perhaps one they’ve tackled before but it didn’t go over quite so well. Our units try to perfectly blend the skills-sharing process, the family interaction, and the right amount of work/bonding to be done each day. By the end of the units, we believe you will see some really incredible–truly incredible–things happening in your family. These are memories made, skills learned, and bonding that your family will have forever. That is our sincerest hope and intention with these Campfire Sessions™.
In the Steps of:
- Contributions from people who have been there and lived through it.
- Think: experience what it would be like in the coldest climates in Alaska, understand the faith of a POW, or get inside the mind of a real-life criminal (with a real criminal profiler)…
In our third category, we interview real people with unique experiences or knowledge, and we take your family to places in the world you might have never been. Maybe that’s to the coldest climates in Alaska to learn how to survive with the natives, or to experience what it is like living without a home in America…
Maybe it’s getting inside the mind of a real-life criminal (with a real criminal profiler), or perhaps it is a view into the life of real pirates (with contributions from historians and treasure hunters)…..
Your family might learn how to live or adjust to living in different countries or continents. Or, you might be following the footsteps of certain peoples (Natives, Prisoners of War…). All units are not based on “internet research,” but instead come with contributions from people in that particular topic.
These are fascinating units which include experiential (and Charlotte-Mason based) activities specifically choreographed for emotional/intellectual/family growth (and fun)…
Perhaps your family has a great fascination with things such as living on an island or what being a pirate was like…. or maybe you just want your family to enhance their awareness of what else is in the world… that’s what these units do!
